CIDNY seeks a full-time Director of Education and Training to oversee its education, training and recreational/cultural initiatives reaching CIDNY’s staff, CIDNY board members, people with disabilities, area businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies. Initiatives focused on financial literacy, health coverage and access, food stamps and sources, housing, disability rights, and more are geared towards primarily to people with disabilities to increase their ability to self- advocate. Programs offered to the general public are geared towards helping the public gain understanding and become more “disability-literate” and able to engage with people with disabilities in a respectful and dignified way. Programming offered to CIDNY staff and board members includes instruction that ensures compliance, best practice, updated legislative code, celebration honoring aspects of diversity, onboarding procedures, technology, and use of CIDNY’s database.
The Director is responsible for:
Providing education and training to CIDNY staff, CIDNY board members, and consumers that the organization serves throughout the five boroughs.
Developing, implementing and evaluating all education, training and recreational/cultural programs.
Initiating and cultivating relationships with organizations and individual able to provide expertise.
Following trending issues concerning people with disabilities and offers opportunities to the community to engage with those issues.
Increasing and monitoring participation in educational and training programs.
Developing a yearly calendar of events that consists of events addressing grant deliverables, disability-related information, celebrations of diversity, training needed by CIDNY staff to perform their work duties, onboarding of new staff and board members, and other tasks assigned by the Executive Director.
Ensuring that all programs and materials are fully accessible to people with disabilities.
Monitor the education and training budget for accessibility expenditures.
The Director of Education and Training will coordinate with CIDNY directors and program managers on emerging or trending issues; skill development; and eliciting community engagement.
CIDNY’s offers a disability literacy training for new staff orientation as well as for outside groups. The Director will seek to improve the program and promote the program in collaboration with the Communications Director and Director of Human Resources.
The Director of Education and Training reports to the Executive Director and collaborates with other Directors and managers to develop trainings for staff.
In aid of education and training program development, the Director of Education and Training is responsible for assisting in the development and distribution of surveys to staff, people with disabilities engaging with CIDNY and the public.
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications: CIDNY seeks candidates with five years of experience in the area of developing, operating and evaluating educational programs. Experience working with colleagues and community members with disabilities as well as a focus on removing barriers to full equality is desired. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills will be needed. Language skills a plus. A successful candidate will have the ability to work cooperatively with others. Bachelor’s degree is required, a master’s degree is preferred.
