Manufacturing Maintenance Technician III – Swing Shift (4 10s)

We are currently recruiting for a Manufacturing Maintenance Technician III to join the Benchmade Knife Company team. The primary responsibility of this position will be to provide support for corrective and preventive maintenance activities as well as basic manufacturing engineering functions. Actively participate in developing processes, controls and solving problems at the root cause and continuous improvement while interacting with others departments, to include Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, Quality and BAM center to implement production best practices. This position will coordinate with the Maintenance Manager and Manufacturing Management to address machine or manufacturing issues to maximize shift output and performance.

Job Responsibilities:

Provide advanced responsive maintenance support to Manufacturing to maintain production equipment to minimize equipment down-time. Trouble shoots and repairs equipment in timely manner to return equipment to full production capability.
Ensure standard work quality processes and standards are followed. Provide training to new and existing employees on respective shift.
Works with maintenance team to identify root cause and establish counter measures.
Responds to employee needs relating to technical issues.
Support implementation of new equipment, procedures and processes for continuous improvement.
Ensure all safety process & procedures are followed as outlined in Benchmade safety policy.
Ensure team is working towards Maintenance KPI goals.
Develop and maintain lean manufacturing Maintenance tools that are implemented.
Maintain an in depth knowledge of work tasks for Maintenance Department.
Troubleshoot problems to affect complex repairs by referring to equipment manuals and following repair procedures, so equipment can be operational with a minimum of down time.
Process the necessary paperwork involved in daily work such as preventative maintenance work orders, purchase requisitions and other documents specific to work area.
Perform advanced preventive maintenance work on the most complex equipment and situations to ensure minimal down time of manufacturing equipment so production targets are achieved. Inspect and test machinery and equipment.
Dismantle defective machines and equipment and install new or repaired parts, following manufactures specifications and blueprints, using precision measuring instruments and hand tools.
Assemble, install and program mechanical, electro-mechanical and automated machinery and systems such as production machinery / tools, storage racks, and robots.
Set up and operate machine tool equipment in the maintenance area as well as basic operation of most production equipment such as drill presses, vertical mills, band saws, cut off saws, engine lathes, gas, arc, mig, and tig welding equipment as may be necessary to fabricate, repair and/or duplicate parts required to maintain and repair equipment.
Layout, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment Provide work leadership to lower level Maintenance Technicians. May participate in a task force to improve company procedures or operation.
Use of hand tools weighing up to 15 pounds including hand power tools. This equipment will include but not be limited to drills, saws, grinders, and threading equipment.
Handle, Package and coordinate pickup of hazardous waste.

Some college coursework completed in a technical field, and 5-6 years of experience working in a Maintenance position in a manufacturing environment is required. Equivalency to the qualification standard will also be considered.
Certification as Limited Maintenance Electrician preferred.
Advanced knowledge and capable in troubleshooting, replacing and working on Servo drives AC and DC
Advanced knowledge and capable in troubleshooting and working on CNC controls w/ hard-drives and flash memory.
Be able to diagnose, program, repair or replace PLC systems and controls required.
Must be able to diagnose and repair machine mechanical systems including but not limited to changing ball screws, drives and drive motors, clutches and spindle bearings.
Must be able to read electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics
Tasks may include installing machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings
5 years of experience working on CNC equipment
Ability to read and make changes to machine code to support manufacturing requirements
Advanced knowledge and capable in troubleshooting and replacement of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulics systems with ability to take voltage, amperage, OHM, pressure and/or flow reading in accordance with ladder and schematic diagrams and determine values.
Electrical/electronic knowledge/skill include but not limited to controls, magnetic starters, rotary switches, relays, solenoids, brakes, input/output devices for PLC’s, CNC and standard electrical wiring principles for AC (up to 480v. three phase) and DC systems
Advanced knowledge of linear and rotary drives including but not limited to ball screws, right angle, gear reducers, variable speed, rack and pinion, belt and chain, and hydraulic and pneumatic.
Advanced knowledge Preventive and Predictive Maintenance practices to drive continues improvement
Ability to be certified to operate forklifts, scissors lift, overhead cranes and hoists to assist in material and personnel movement required.
Excellent skills in interpersonal communication and teamwork.
Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
Work independently and possess a high level of self-motivation and initiative.
Effectively problem solve, prioritize, and follow through on assignments and projects
Must have in depth working knowledge and awareness to comply with all standard OSHA and State safety regulations and policies, RE: Lock Out Tag procedures for all types of equipment, proper handling of solvents and chemicals according to SDS sheets, vision, hearing and respiratory protection, and proper lifting techniques as may be required within the scope of the job at hand.
