MANUFACTURING & MECHATRONICS: Umpqua Community College (UCC) is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Manufacturing and Mechatronics Instructor to join our outstanding team of Career and Technical Educators. Essential duties of this position include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
Facilitate learning that applies to and enriches lives and promotes learning as a lifelong process.
Teach occupational knowledge and skills in areas such as safety, machine processes, metal fabrication, welding, cutting, fluid power, PLC’s, communications, and career preparation.
Participate in curriculum development, assessment, improvement, and revision.
Cover the course content as described in the approved course outline and provide sufficient exposure to the material so that students will satisfactorily proceed to the next course in sequence and/or courses in the program.
Encourage student responsibility for learning and creates a learning climate of mutual respect and fairness, while remaining open to others’ ideas and a positive team spirit.
Deliver courses using the designed or assigned modality: face-to-face (in-person), remote, hybrid, bended, or online. Fully utilizing Canvas, Panopto, and Zoom to meet student needs.
Advise students in academic program requirements as necessary for graduation.
Implement class activities that will promote maximum learning and student success.
Demonstrate ability to facilitate groups in meetings and workshop settings, solve problems, make decisions, and engage others in creating a vision and designing and implementing programs to realize the vision.
Submit reports as requested including class rosters, grade reports, grade books, textbook requests, inventories, final examinations in a timely manner and with educational accuracy.
Engage students in an active learning process and encourages creative and critical thinking.
Maintain the shop space and equipment in a safe and professional manner.
Lead and write the required program assessment and review, engaging other faculty in the discussion of program quality and continuous improvement (course assessment, annual program assessment, scheduled program reviews).
Collect program data, developing data collection formats where needed. Reports must be submitted to the dean for review.
Coordinate with and serves as a liaison to the manufacturing and mechatronics industry.
Review, revise, and monitor syllabi of full and part-time faculty.
Facilitate textbook orders and maintain inventory of specialized supplies and equipment used in the program.
Work collaboratively with other staff members and assist in the successful operation and synergy of the program marketing and growth.
Assist the dean with instructional budget preparation and contribute suggestions for annual department budget and the appropriate use of student fees.
Carry out college policies in all aspects that relate to the position in a professional manner.
Assist in committee assignments and other related activities which contribute to the improvement and proper operation of the college.
Conduct oneself as a representative of the college staff when participating in school-related functions.
Maintain positive public relations; demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills and act as a team player.
Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to agency records and data, students, families, colleagues, or employment partners.
Attend in-service training, staff meetings, and complete required paperwork in a timely manner.
Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all employees.
Employee will be held accountable for adhering to their regular work hours and schedule.

Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing and/or Mechatronics or related field combined with a minimum of five years of successful occupational experience in Manufacturing and/or Mechatronics or five years relevant experience teaching in a Manufacturing / Mechatronics training/education program. (Consideration will be given to an alternative combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job.)
Demonstrate possession of knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for employment in the manufacturing and mechatronics industry.
Demonstrate ability to relate positively with students, teachers, administrators, employers, parents, and the community.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational skills.
Proven skills working collaboratively and productively in a team environment while building consensus among diverse groups, including department personnel and partner agencies.
Demonstrate ability to analyze complex situations and implement proactive or corrective actions and strategies.
Thorough knowledge of computer usage and ability to use word processing, multimedia and database software, E-mail, the Internet, Canvas, Banner, and essential computer literacy for instruction.
Expertise and/or experience with in-person and remote instruction.
Highly Qualified Candidates:
Education: Master’s degree in Education or related Manufacturing and/or Mechatronics fields.
Experience with outcomes assessment, curriculum, or training development; plus, course revision and the ability to teach lessons aligned to learning outcomes.
Community College teaching or industry training experience.
Professional Technical endorsement in Manufacturing Technology or STEM Education.
Appropriate industry certifications (may include):
American Welding Society (AWS).
Certified Fluid Power Specialist (CFPS).
Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
International Fluid Power Society (IFPS).
National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
NC3 Festo or Allen/ Bradley/ Siemens Certifications.
